Songs About Pillars

Pillars could literally mean anything. It goes beyond the literal meaning of something or even someone you care about who occupies a special place in your heart. These pillars help you when you’re down or put you back in track when you lose a step. Good friends are the best pillars you can ever hold onto cause they’ve got your back.

“Pillars” could also take a negative form. It could mean a hindrance, a difficult situation you’ve been trying so hard to get through. You might pass all stages, excel in other aspects but on getting to these pillars, you fail.

Life is a constant cycle filled with these pillars. However, no matter how tall a pillar is, it’s never too impossible to knock down. I’ve made a concise list of songs about pillars. I hope you find what you seek. Enjoy!

5 Songs About Pillars

1. “Pillar Of Truth” by Lucy Dacus

This is a great song by Lucy Dacus which is dedicated to her grandmother. According to the narrator, she wrote the lyrics whilst they were in her house in Mississippi not knowing that that would be the last time they’d be seeing each other.

She remarked that this song has a wonderful message and that she had gained so much insight from her grandmother’s steadfastness and quietness; that she had learned quite a lot from her.

According to Lucy, her grandmother knew she wouldn’t survive it; she knew she was going to pass away and saw the fear in the faces of those around her. However, she took full control of the situation.

The narrator further stated that her grandma actually organized her funeral herself; such an amazing woman. Truly, this song is about an inspiring woman, one that the narrator wishes to walk in her footsteps. Indeed, the title, pillar of truth is well deserving.

2. “Pillar Of Davidson” by Live

Live - Pillar of Davidson (Pretoria, South Africa) November 11, 2017

This song is about the struggles of factory workers who are poorly paid and are treated like pieces of machinery that only exist to make money. The song is about the sufferings of factory workers.

The band members spent their childhood in York, Pennsylvania, a town in Pennsylvania that is home to the Harley Davidson motorcycle factory as well as several other industrial plants that served as sources of inspiration for the band’s music. Kowalczyk gives thanks to the band for rescuing him from a fate that was otherwise inevitable.

Because CataPILLAR and AMC (who make Harley-Davidson bikes) were the two primary employers in York, Pennsylvania, where this song was written, the band chose to call it the Pillar of Davidson.

So, the overarching theme of this song is about factory workers who are poorly treated as though they’re not human by their boss. Some other sources however suggest that it has a religious undertone.

3. “A Pillar Of Salt” by The Thermals

The Thermals - A Pillar of Salt (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

This song is an allegory for the escape from Sodom and Gomorrah. For the sake of those of you who are not familiar with the narrative of Sodom and Gomorrah, let me explain. There was a city; Sodom and Gomorrah which was filled with all manner of atrocities. However, the fact that they engaged in “sodomy” was only a very small part of their overall “sinning,” they had all manner of other sinful things doing.

They were extremely brutal to beggars, and a significant section of the narrative centres on their hostility and mistreatment of those who were considered to be outsiders. As a direct result of this, God decided to demolish the city, but he made an exception for a man named Lot and his family.

The angels, who were disguised as humans, led them out of the city and warned them not to look back at the destruction as they left. However, Lot’s wife disobeyed them and was punished by being turned into a pillar of salt, which is where the song gets its name.

4. “Pillars Of Serpent” by Trivium

Trivium - Pillars of Serpents (Official Audio)

The phrase “pillars of serpents” is actually a metaphor for the corrupt way of life as a whole. We live in a filled with many atrocities and to Trivium, they assume the world to be a pillar of serpents. The band sees a world built on sin which they believe has a figurative “pillar” surrounding it, which to some extent encloses the individuals who live within it.

It would appear that the singer is actually pleading with individuals, including himself, to dedicate themselves to “changing to better times.” He wants us to be “a spark to light the earth,” which means that we should serve as a guiding light for those who are struggling to triumph over the “pillars of serpents.”

It would appear that the singer is actually pleading with individuals, including himself, to dedicate themselves to “moving to better times.”

This conclusion is supported by the evidence shown above. He wants us to be “a spark to light the earth,” which means that we should serve as a guiding light for those who are struggling to triumph over the “pillars of serpents.” One would say it’s a song about fighting corruption to make the world a better place

5. “You are the Pillar that Holds My Life” by Ronke Adesokan

RONKE ADESOKAN - You are the Pillar

Last on our list of songs about pillars is this uplifting gospel song and one you should endeavour to listen to. It stresses the fact that Jesus is the pillar that holds our lives. That without him, we’ll be lost to the sinful nature and sufferings that abound this earth.

This heartfelt song is a great reminder that Christians should reverence God for He’s our saviour and protector. It has a repetitive, and straightforward meaning that comes like a hymn of praises to God for His mercies and Grace to keep us safe from the world. The Bible let us know that Jesus is our shepherd and it is Him who guides and leads our path.

This song coincides exactly with that thought. That is, by being our pillars not only does He protect us from the evil that haunts us, but He also leads us not into temptations.
