Songs About Anointing

To be anointed is to be dedicated to the service of God. It was clear that Jesus was under the anointing of the Holy Spirit during His ministry on earth because of the miracles He performed and the people whose lives He changed.

There was no sickness or evil presence that was able to withstand the force that came from Jesus Christ, whether it be demons or disease. You, as a disciple of Christ, have access to the same anointing that others do.

People are anointed by God when their love for Him surpasses their love for their own life, and when they love their neighbours as much as they love themselves. The anointing of God runs through us as we make room in our hearts to love one another. The flow is interrupted when we harden our hearts against other people and grieve the Holy Spirit.

It is through people that the anointing of the Holy Spirit is bestowed to make clear the love and power of God. Everyone who is a part of the body of Christ has been anointed with the Holy Spirit, and we all have a responsibility to share from the anointing that God has bestowed upon us with one another, as well as a responsibility to be open to receiving the anointing that is imparted by other Christians.

In this article, I’ve organised a list of songs about anointing and I pray the anointing of God in your life never departs as you read through. Enjoy!

5 Songs About Anointing:

1. “Anointing Fall On Me” by Ron Kenoly

Ron Kenoly - Anointing Fall on Me (Live)

This is an uplifting song from the award-winning gospel artist Ron Kenoly. This worship song comes in the form of a plea asking God for His anointing; for the power that breaks every chain.

As Christians, we ought to realise the power of anointing, the power that defies natural laws, the same power that subdued all powers of darkness and that same power Jesus used while on earth to perform many miracles.

This song is quite phenomenal, it takes you to the throne of Grace. Everything from its lyrics to the sound production is perfect, all to give you that sense of reflection of what it means to be in God’s presence.

This is a song you should have on your playlist and trust me when you do, those beautiful melodies won’t fade from your heart and mind. This is one of the songs about the anointing that reflects on a lot of things.

2. “Fresh Wind” by Hillsong

Fresh Wind (Official Lyric Video) - Hillsong Worship

Fresh wind by Hillsong is yet another fascinating song about anointing out there. Given its rather simple lyrics, I believe “fresh wind” is a metaphor for God’s anointing.

Not only is “Fresh Wind” a beautiful worship song for any Christian with whom it can connect, but it is also the true cry of our hearts for the church of Christ to give us the anointing to strengthen our faith and works here on earth.

We have a genuine need for the church to be the body of Christ in a world that is angry and divided, but we cannot be and we dare not try to be without the invaluable assistance of the Holy Spirit. Hence, why we need the fresh wind – God’s anointing

We can only become the Church that the Lord sees in His heart if the Spirit of God is poured out upon the Church. We need a breath of fresh wind, and through this song, we are calling out to the only One who can provide it for us.

At some point in this song, the lyrics make an impassioned plea for believers to turn from their sins and for the Holy Spirit to work among them. This is a true worship song because we know that sin is the only hindrance between us and Our father in heaven. So, to receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit, one must first be cleansed of their sins

3. “Spirit Of God” by Phil Wickham

Phil Wickham - Spirit of God (Audio)

Lyrically, “Spirit Of God” by Phil Wickham is one of the best songs about Anointing. Songs of worship that quote scripture or have lyrics that are very similar to scripture are some of my favourites.

This is a song that I appreciate dearly because it helps me recall verses of scripture that I might not have been able to remember if they were not included in the song. There are a few verses taken directly from the Bible that are sung in this song for example from John 3:30.

This is a song that beseeches God to send us the Holy Spirit; it’s a song that asks God to anoint us and fill us with the power of the holy spirit. As Christians, we need the anointing of God, and we need the Holy Spirit to fill us with strength, and the zeal to continue the good works and to renew our faith in Christ Jesus.

When I am feeling far from him, I can refocus my thoughts and heart on him because of this song. It calms all within me and helps me focus.

4. “Spirit Breakout” by Kim Walker-Smith

Jesus Culture - Spirit Break Out - Kim Walker Smith

This song by Kim Walker-Smith, with its emphasis on the Holy Spirit and Heaven, speaks to our heart’s deepest desires. The need to live in the kind of world that God had in mind when He made man and woman in Adam and Eve’s image.

The best aspect is that we are confident that we will be part of this future someday. In the end, God will create a new heaven and a new earth for humanity, making it possible for us to live alongside him once more.

In the meanwhile, however, we can have a relationship with God through the work of the Holy Spirit in the world in which we live and through his anointing.

And while we are here, we have the opportunity to take down the walls that we have built around ourselves, allowing us to view all of the beauty that God has created and sense the presence of God.

5. “Breathe On Me” by Edwin Hatch

Breathe on me, Breath of God • Edwin Hatch (1878)

This is yet another inspirational song from Edwin Hatch. It’s about finding power, love, truth and purity in the anointing of the Holy Spirit. This hymn takes the form of a first-person perspective to keep you engrossed the entire time.

I find this song personally beautiful because of its composition, message, lyrics; in fact, everything. It’s a classic that’s been around for centuries and one you should consider listening to sometime.
