Top songs With “Man” In The Title

Man is inherently unique. With his eyes yearning for the impossible and his gaze fixated on the unattainable. Men are known for many things, among them is their willpower, courage not to falter and the perseverance to survive and push on amidst fears and uncertainties in the face of adversities.

Man has indeed in his pursuit of greatness, affected the environment and Mother Nature given his number of activities and this has drawn rather the attention of musicians in recent times.

Although this is particularly addressed to all men out there, in some songs below, the narrator might be referring to their own men in particular. Therefore, we’ll be having a look at man in the context of humans and man as the gender man. Enjoy!

5 Songs With Man In The Title:

1. “Man In The Mirror” By Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson - Man In The Mirror (Official Video)

Ranking first on our list of songs with man in the title is from the king of pop himself Michael Jackon. This song tells the story of a guy who makes a decision to change his ways, or who is attempting to do so, before he begins to change the world.

He talks about how some events, such as seeing destitute children living on the streets, have had a significant impact on him, and how he wants to make a significant change in the world, but he believes that in order to do so, he must first make that change within himself (the man in the mirror.)

This song focuses on the listener’s own introspection as well as the internal conflict that comes with striving to be a better, more honourable, and more moral person.

It raises problems like, “What is the individual’s obligation to society?” and “What is the responsibility of the government to the people? Is it possible that by changing ourselves, we can alter the world? How much influence does one individual have over the course of history?

Because the song’s primary purpose is to encourage listeners to assist themselves before extending assistance to other people, the audience is in general subjective and possibly not specified.

Although the mood of the poem is initially self-reflective and has a trace of pessimism and gloom, despite this, it motivates the reader to strive to become a better person, which is especially important considering the fact that most of us are in much better situations and have more privileges than we do.

It is full of figurative language and imagery; even the song “Man in the Mirror” is figurative language and an image. Its purpose is to suggest or demonstrate to us in a roundabout way that the “man in the mirror” is not anyone else but ourselves.

2. “The Man with the Axe” by Lorde

Lorde - The Man with the Axe (Official Audio)

The narrator depicts herself as a pine tree in the song, and the addressee, who is referred to as “the man with the axe,” is depicted as “falling her” in the metaphor that gives the song its title.

To put it another way, we can say that she developed romantic feelings for this particular person. Because of this, she is “composing a love song” for him. And as is typical for a Lorde song, there is a great deal of messages and emotions involved.

To put it another way, the conventional explanations for why women fall in love, such as mental and physical attraction, are not the only reasons she is obsessed with him. But even beyond that, he can penetrate her emotional and psychological defences, even if he is not really working very hard to do so.

However, the titular metaphor is built on this idea that the vocalist is compelled to surrender to the addressee, which is a recurring theme in the piece.

3. “Man’s World” By Marina

MARINA - Man's World (Official Music Video)

This is Marina Diamandis’ version of the protest song, and it is called “Man’s World.” When considering many aspects of the world, she takes what can be termed a feminist perspective.

The artist has a strong belief, which is basically what it comes down to, that our leaders, who are largely male, have purposefully discriminated against females in order to further their careers.

And not just the womenfolk, but also others like queer folks too are subjected to oppression at the hands of these people. In addition, Marina uses the event to allude to the fact that “Mother Nature,” otherwise known as the environment, is being harmed by the male-dominated powers that be.

And to conclude, all of these feelings are meant to guide us to the ultimate statement, which is that the singer has grown tired of living under the tyranny of men.

4. Nirvana’s “The Man Who Sold The World”

Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World (MTV Unplugged)

This song was written by David Bowie and later covered by Nirvana. This song employs a rather complex metaphor but its meanings are amazingly clear. It tells the story of a man who is stunned to meet the other version of himself or his personality that he believed he had gotten rid of.

The narrator was probably under the impression that he had buried this different version of himself from his past, which is why he can recognise it now. The author most likely referred to “stairs” to emphasise how far he has come as a person and how far he has come away from the kind of person he used to be.

When he confronts this other version of himself, it introduces itself as a friend, but he reacts quite reluctantly to this claim. He admits that he was under the impression that his old character had passed away a long time ago. This could only mean that there was something in his former self he didn’t expect to survive.

In the second verse, we see how the writer tries to go on, despite the incident. Laughing and shaking hands, they part ways, but the current incarnation of himself gets disoriented in the process of looking for answers.

He is at a crossroads, attempting to decide which version of himself to present to the world. He has likely been on the road for a long time, going on tours and running businesses. As he continues to seek answers, he tries to put his life back together. While trying to please as many people as possible, he ended up losing touch with his true self and dying alone. A truly remarkable song!

5. “Million Dollar Man” By Lana Del Rey

Million Dollar Man

Concluding our list of songs with man in the title is “Million dollar man”“. The story of “Million dollar man” is about a person Lana knew who was really toxic but also addictive. It is obvious that the reason she was interested in him was due to the mysteries surrounding his life.

Because of who he is, she has a deep and abiding affection for this guy, yet he does not appear to have cared about her at all, and she has no idea why. I’d say in my personal opinion that this song is a case of unrequited or one-sided love.
