Best songs with black in the title

The color black is used in various themes, especially at Black Tie Events. Grooms traditionally wear a back tuxedo, a white shirt, and a black tie to their weddings. Also, judges and clergy wear black robes to signify authority as a symbol of their status.

Black can symbolize other things too to elegance, power, formality. On the other hand, black can be used to reflect the spooky and macabre aspects of Halloween – evil, death, fear, mourning, mystery.

Here is a list of our favorite songs with black in the title:

1. Michael Jackson’s “Black or White”

Michael Jackson - Black Or White (Official Video - Shortened Version)

Ranking first on our list of songs with black in the title is this great song “Black or White” from the King of Pop M.J. In this 1991 song, Michael Jackson made an appeal for racial tolerance and peace, long before the Black Lives Matter movement.

At the time, Jackson’s image was being tarnished due to his oddities and fluctuating physical appearance. “Wacko Jacko” was one of the nicknames he received from tabloids.

“The King of Pop” was firmly established with this chart-topper. There could only be one title for his video, “Black or White,” on television: “The King of Pop.” It’s a moniker he came up with and encouraged others to use, so it’s stuck around.

Racial equality is the focus of this catchy pop tune. It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white, the narrator says, referring to how tired he is of “this stuff.”

He declares that he’s no longer terrified of Klansmen, and then pleads with people to use their common sense. This is one of the songs with black in the title that I will not forget in a hurry, and it is surely one of my favorites.

2. Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black”

Amy Winehouse - Back To Black

Amazedly talented singer Amy Winehouse narrates a painful separation with Blake-Fielder-Civil in her 2006 retro-flavored soul ballad. Winehouse struggled to go “back to black,” which is to say that she tried to get back to the familiar, when he temporarily left her for an ex-girlfriend.

Black was perceived differently by different people. To some, it meant having a dark mood (sad) and drinking.

To others, it meant black tar heroin. Black is the street term for the substance, which she also mentions in the song.) The singer died at the age of 27 after a binge drinking vodka and watching old YouTube videos of her previous gigs while suffering from drug and alcohol addictions.

3. The Doobie Brothers’ “Black Water”

The Doobie Brothers - Black Water (Official Music Video)

The Doobie Brothers’ first number-one hit single in 1974 was this rocker, which became recognized as the band’s anthem.

The narrator of the song’s lyrics dreams of gliding through the Mississippi River’s ethereal waves on a moonlit raft. He fantasizes about catfishing and making a pit stop in New Orleans to enjoy jazz and the beverages.

However, rafting down the Mississippi River may sound like a great way to spend a day, but the river is polluted by agricultural and urban waste.

Alligators, sharks, snakes, and leeches abound. There are some things that are better expressed via song than any other means.

4. KT Turnstall’s “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree”

KT Tunstall - Black Horse And The Cherry Tree (Official Video)

It wasn’t until Katharine McPhee sang it on the eighth season of American Idol that this captivating folk rock tune from 2005 gained the recognition it deserved on the charts. It tells the story of a lady who understands herself better than she does.

The narrator is stranded in the middle of nowhere until she comes to a critical junction, a decision she must make in her life.

Suddenly, there are a cherry tree and a huge black horse in her path, both of which seem to be pleading with her for marriage. Cherries and a mysterious black horse are both symbolic of unquenchable longing. However, marriage is always a mystery.)

The woman rejects the proposal of marriage. She suppresses her feelings and lives to regret it when she later develops an irregular heartbeat.

They all leave her, including her heart, the cherry tree, and the black horse. This song is about having the courage to live your life in accordance with your innermost desires. One of the best songs with black in the title.

5. Carrie Underwood, “Two Black Cadillacs”

Carrie Underwood - Two Black Cadillacs

Hell hath no fury like the scorned, and here are two women who have bonded together to avenge the man who betrayed their trust.

After calling an unknown number on her husband’s cell phone, she gets through to his lover in this deliciously dark-hearted country song from 2012.

For the philandering mister, this turned out to be one of the darkest of outcomes. Instead of blaming one another, the girls decide to get even with the cheating man they weren’t even aware they both shared.

Two months later, they show up at his burial in two black Cadillacs and pretend to be sad as the preacher and the deceased man’s brother praise his character. High five, sister! No one had any idea these women were allies.

6. Thrice’s “Black Honey”

Thrice - Black Honey [Official Video]

“Black honey” is a term for oil in this political rock song from 2016. As the song’s title suggests, the song uses the metaphor of a man who keeps swinging his fist at a bee swarm because he wants honey on his dinner table to describe American involvement in the Middle East.

Apparently, he’s not thinking ahead about the repercussions of his actions when he interrupts them.

7. “Back in Black” by AC/DC

AC/DC - Back In Black (Official Video)

In 1980, just five months after Bon Scott’s sudden death following a wild night of partying, AC/DC released this classic metal/hard rock song. Brian Johnson took over as the group’s new leader and led it until 2016.

An uproarious ode to Scott, “Back in Black” makes allusions to never dying and a cat’s nine lives. Instead of being depressing, it honors their late bandmate and buddy. One of the greatest songs ever recorded

8. Shinedown’s “Black Cadillac”

Shinedown - Black Cadillac (Official Audio)

The main messages of the 2015 hard rock song are to live each day to the fullest and to recognize death’s power. The song shows a black Cadillac hearse, which is commonly used in funeral procession.

In the meantime, the narrator prays to be able to correct the mistakes of the past and keep moving forward in his life. He has improved his self-control and is looking forward to the future with optimism.

If he continues to make the same mistakes, he’ll be riding in the back of that hearse himself in a matter of months or years.

9. “Black Dog” by Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin - Black Dog (Official Audio)

Unknown black Labrador Retriever who walked around the studio grounds served as the inspiration for this rockin’ 1971 song. However, there was no connection between the black dog and the song’s subject matter.

In the iconic Led Zep rock song, the male narrator is lured to a visually attractive woman. Unfortunately, the vixen squander his money, steals his car, and uses him in the hopes of gaining recognition for herself. As a result, the male is left with deep remorse and longing for a solid, happy relationship.

10. Volbeat’s “Black Rose”,(featuring Danko Jones)

Volbeat ft. Danko Jones - Black Rose (Official Lyric Video)

As the name suggests, the forbidding blossoms are technically a very dark shade of red or purple. “Black Rose” is the name of a 2017 rock song by a narrator who refers to his betrayed girlfriend as “a black rose.”

Although the man has a sour attitude towards his cold-hearted ex-lover, he recalls the fun they had together when their relationship first began. He has a glimmer of hope that things can get back to the way they were.

11. Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun”

Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun

Don’t be fooled by the song’s dreamy, surreal atmosphere into thinking that “Black Hole Sun” is a cheerful tune from 1994.

After the death of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, Soundgarden’s lead vocalist Chris Cornell wrote a deceptively sad tune that became the band’s biggest hit.

Cornell was plagued with depression for a long period of time. It bled into the band’s music, and he committed suicide two decades later, in 2017.

This song, which won Cornell a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, conveys an unmistakable sense of loss despite Cornell’s description of it as “surreal, arcane word painting.”

The narrator recounts feeling ill and disgraced against a black sky, a sign of evil, emotional heaviness, and death. This is one of the songs with black in the title that reflects on a lot of things.

The song is ominous as he begs the black hole sun to wash away the rain for him. Nothing, not even light, can escape from a black hole. In the end, this is a song that expresses his suicidal intentions.

12. Santana’s “Black Magic Woman”

Santana - Black Magic Woman (Official Audio)

Did you know that this Fleetwood Mac song was covered by Santana in 1970? Santana added percussion instruments, such as congas and timbales, to give it a Latin feel with a distinct voodoo edge.

The song tells the story of a man who has been seduced by a strange woman skilled in the dark arts. Nobody is certain if she is a real voodoo priestess or if heroin is merely a metaphor for some other wicked power.

You should be aware that heroin is also known on the streets as “black,” “black tar,” “black pearl,” “black eagle,” and “black stuff.”

As the narrator’s sweetheart pushes him to the brink, he fears she will abandon him once she has cast her spell over him.

13. “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress” by The Hollies.

The narrator of this bluesy rock song from 1972 is an undercover FBI agent who is “sitting in a nest of terrible men” in a speakeasy during the Prohibition era.

After seeing a long-legged singer in black dress before the attack, he becomes infatuated with her. The government operatives swarmed in with no prior notice.

The undercover spy makes a quick decision as gunfire ring out. In order to keep her safe, he holds her hand and shields her from harm.

14. John Anderson’s “Black Sheep”

John Anderson - Black Sheep

This 1993 country song has a man who isn’t afraid to admit that he’s a “black sheep.” The narrator operates a semi-truck while his siblings are more successful and educated than he is.

In a two-room shanty, he lives with a waitress and their two young children. There’s nothing complicated about this guy, just a simple person with a simple philosophy.

15. Frank Turner’s “Blackout”

Frank Turner - Blackout (Official Video)

Do you feel threatened by the absence of light? That’s the question this year’s alternative rock song is asking.

A song of vulnerability, it uses a power outage to express our desire for connection. One person’s television may die when the lights go out, while for another, it could mean that their life support system fails.

Fear of the unknown amid complete darkness is invoked by the narrator in this song. His actions are motivated by a deep sense of empathy and concern for others.

16. “Black” by Dierks Bentley

Imagine being able to entice the man of your desires with your self-assurance. That’s what you’ll get if you drink a little black potion.

This 2015 dance single by the British girl group Little Mix features a sarcastic narrator in the style of the 1980s.

Using black magic and a well guarded secret recipe, the lady manipulates her beloved to acquire what she wants. Her companion is hooked on this dark potion after only one sip.

18. “Black Widow” by Iggy Azalea (with Rita Ora)

Iggy Azalea - Black Widow ft. Rita Ora

The final song in our list of songs with black in the title is this great song. In this 2014 rap song, the woman gives a stern warning to the man who has the audacity to fall in love with her and then treat her badly.

That gal is going to go all “fatal attraction” on his cheating hide and make him wish they hadn’t met paths in the first place.

To describe her revenge plan, she compares it to the black widow spider, which is infamous for consuming its prey during sex.
